THE PROCEDURE:
A baseball bat is hung by a string from its end. The
center of mass is marked C and the center of percussion is
marked P. H1 is the distance from the point O, the
point of support, and the center of mass. H2 is the
distance from the center of mass to the center of
percussion. If the bat is hit at the center of mass C
there is no rotation about point O, only a translation of
the center of mass. If the bat is hit at point P, the
bat rotates about point O and the axis of the body as if it
were a simple pendulum of length H1 + H2.
