Suspend a length of copper wire across the front of the bench such that one end is tied and the other is looped over a pulley with a 1kg weight hanger on it. Add a small amount of extra weight ~500g to show that the wire stretches a small amount. Take this weight off an show that the wire relaxes to it's starting length. Put a large amount of extra weight on the hanger to brake the wire.
