THE PROCEDURE:
Pull the spring platform a few inches to the side.
Measure the time it takes the spring to oscillate ten
times. Put the 1kg weight on the platform. Pull
the spring to the side, the same distance as before.
Measure the time it takes for the spring plus the weight to
make ten complete oscillations. Find the ratio
between; (10 oscillations with the weight) / (10
oscillations without the weight). Knowing that the
mass of the spring platform is 855gm, show that the ratio
calculated above is equal to the ratio of; the square root
of (weight of the spring + 1kg) / (weight of the
spring). In this case equal to sqrt(1855/855) =
1.473.
